I pull open the screen door, knock a couple of times, and wonder if I’ll even recognize her. A moment later, the door flies open, and I’m staring at Samantha Watson’s wide, happy grin. Her dark brown hair is pulled back beneath a blue bandana, and there’s a white streak of paint on her cheek that makes me think of street urchins. She’s at least three inches taller than the last time I saw her, the top of her head now reaching my chin. In my mind, she’s still built like a pre-teen fence post, but to be fair, I can’t get any real sense of her figure since she’s wearing a paint-splattered men’s button-down that doubles as a smock and baggy, faded jeans. I can see her face just fine, though. The same, but different. Her wide brown eyes seem bigger and darker, with the kind of lashes that Cayden’s wife Gracie wears when she’s modeling, but on Sam are the real deal. The childish round face that’s burned into my memories has given way to a perfect oval accented by cheekbones that stand out when she smiles. Something she’s doing right now, actually, and I can’t help but notice that her plump lips and wide mouth were made for smiling. And for other things. Things that I have no business noticing about my best friend’s sister. Not even in passing. Not even casually. I’m still lecturing myself when she steps forward, obviously intending to give me a hug. And, damn me, I actually take a step back, her lush lips still filling my vision and Brody’s all-too-strict warning still ringing in my ears. To my relief, she laughs. “I know. Awkward, right? I mean, you were like my brother, but it’s been ages. Probably best to start out with a friendly handshake and work our way up to social hugging.” She thrusts out her hand, and I take it, noticing how well it fits into mine, and surprised at how smooth her skin is despite the fact that she apparently spends a lot of time working with her hands. “From what Brody tells me,” I say, “we won’t be stopping at the social hug.” It might be my imagination, but I think her grip tightens slightly. Not that I have time to analyze the nuances of our connection, because she gently tugs her hand free. She clears her throat, then steps aside and ushers me into the house. “Listen, thank you so much. I know this whole thing must sound crazy, and I can’t even tell you how much it means to me that you agreed to do it.” “I didn’t—” “I know. Brody told me the whole story about how you didn’t want to, but then you remembered how you two pledged to look out for me. And even though I’m old enough to look out for myself now, I really, really appreciate this.” She pauses, looking me over once more before she shuts the front door and gestures me further into the house. I hesitate, because this is the moment when I should tell her that I need to leave so that I can go strangle her brother. The guy never could keep a secret. “It’s not that I didn’t want to help…,” I trail off lamely as she flashes me a crooked smile. “I believe you. Why wouldn’t you want to go off to Fredericksburg to a weekend wedding hosted by people you’ve never met with a woman you haven’t seen since she was a kid, but now you’ll have to pretend to be her fiancé even though you don’t even know her favorite color?” “When you put it that way, I must be crazy.”

It is so much fun when a tough guy meets his match in a strong, confident woman. Leo gets trapped into helping his best friend’s sister, Sam, by being her ‘fake’ fiancé at a wedding she has to attend. Now, he knows Sam, she was always around when they were kids but he hasn’t seen her in years. He isn’t prepared for the sexy, confident woman in front of him and knows his promise to Brody to keep his hands off of Sam is going to be hard to keep. Sam is very clever given that she has always had a crush on Leo. Getting him to help her out for the weekend is brilliant and allows her to fulfill the fantasy she has carried for years in her head. Now, will these two follow the sparks and give in to temptation? Or will Leo behave? It was so much fun to find out as their weekend unfolded. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Beautiful journey to find love while battling the issue of duty versus dreams. Rosalina is expected to marry and produce an heir to continue the monarchy in her country. Just as these wheels begin to move, she finds out the man she thought she loved is cheating on her. This sends her to Calamity for a dress fitting which ends up leading her to a new variation of a flower which puts her in the lab to make a new scent. Meeting Brodie Bowie is unexpected but he shares her passion for new ideas which makes them great partners. Brodie is an idea man but has got a reputation for not following through. As he begins to work with Rosie, it forces him to look deep at the direction his life is taking. As he watches her battle desire to be a perfumer with the duty her family requires, he realizes that maybe he hasn’t made all the best decisions. These two incredibly talented and driven people become the perfect balance to help each other follow their true passions. I enjoyed the challenges that they both faced and how their relationship wasn’t easy even though their chemistry was electric. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

He let out a long, deep breath.
“No, far from it.”
“What’s it about?”

“I’m excited.”
“If it’s anything like what I saw last night, then we’ll know for sure if you can be CSI.”
“It was bad?”
Ethan leaned back. “Yeah. Worst murder I’ve ever seen.”
“Wow,” I breathed and took another sip of water. “Well, I’m excited. Class has been fun so far. It will be good for me.”
“Want me to come over when I get off work, and we can study?”
I raised an eyebrow.
“I mean it. I can answer questions if you have them.”
The waitress came and took our order. After she left, I said, “I’d rather study like we used to study.”
He choked on a sip of water. “Really?”
I leaned forward, resting my forearms on the table. “Tell me if I’m reading this wrong. You took me home, let me sleep in your bed, gave me a key to your place, invited me to lunch, and offered to see me again tonight when you’re working on what I assume is a big case since you said it was the worst murder you’ve ever seen.”
Ethan grinned slowly. “Reagan Hunter, are you telling me that you want to study?” He put air quotes around “study,” causing me to bite my lip.
“Yeah, Ethan Valor. I want to study. All. Night. Long.”

  MORE ABOUT JHB For years (decades), I told myself that I didn’t like gyms and even though I joined several with the best intentions, I stayed away. I lived in London and walked four miles a day to and from Tube stations, so that seemed like enough. I often had an aching back and shoulders, and sometimes sciatic pain, too. I put it down to having a desk job, even though I was only in my twenties. When I moved from London to live by the ocean, I began a love affair with swimming—and there’s nothing like swimming in a cold ocean! I walked my little dog every day and felt better, but with turning to writing full-time, there were still a lot of hours spent at a desk. Then I got really sick. The death of my father was a stressful time, as you can imagine, but it became worse when it triggered Rheumatoid Arthritis in me. Suddenly, I was using walking sticks to get around, sometimes a wheelchair, and often crippled with pain. All the usual drugs helped, and I began to regain mobility slowly. But the turning point for me was joining a gym, and realising what I’d been missing out on all these years. Nothing happens overnight, and it was a process of simply keeping going two to three times a week to feel the benefits—and I did. I was happy, my family was happy, even my doctor was happy. “I guess when we need relief from the heat, we go, you know, into the actual shade.” He looked amused. “Among other things.” “Other things?” It wasn’t so much that she needed to know other ways to keep cool. But she really liked the way he looked when he was mildly amused. It was a very good look on him. “Lots of water and sweet tea,” he said. She gave an involuntary shudder. His amused smile grew. “No to sweet tea?” “Not my favorite,” she admitted. “But don’t tell Ellie,” she added quickly. He chuckled at that. “I would never.” Yeah, the chuckling was nice, too. “I’ve got the water covered though,” she said. “Good.” “Anything else?” “Well, when we get hot there area couple of other things we do,” he said. Had he moved closer? Juliet swallowed. “Like what?” “We take clothes off,” he said. Yeah, his voice was definitely deeper now. “I gue—” She cleared her throat. “I guess that makes sense, but there are bugs and sunburn to consider.” He gave her a nod. “Sunscreen and bug repellent are important. Cora makes bug repellent that’s amazing.” Huh. Homemade bug repellent. She might have to give that a try. These people intrigued her, she had to admit. “What about the flying debris?” Sawyer glanced at the boards behind her. “Yeah, well, I guess we do take some risks down here.” Ah, ha. “I’d rather be a little hot than dealing with an infection from a piece of wood imbedding itself in my skin and muscle tissue.” Sawyer paused, then shook his head, almost disbelievingly. “Okay, girl. Then that only leaves one other thing to do when you get too hot.” “What’s that?” “Swimming.” For a moment, looking into Sawyer Landry’s eyes, for the first time since she’d been ten years old, Juliet wanted to take her clothes off and jump into a body of water. And they probably do it in that water, too.” She shuddered again. “No, thank you. Fabulous. Sawyer and Juliet captivated me. The Landry clan are experts at interfering in each other’s lives. When they met Juliet, they knew she would be the perfect match for super-cautious Sawyer. Juliet is an incredible woman, successful lawyer that lives with a right-side weakness from her childhood. Because of this, she is a master planner, anticipating any and all contingencies before she dives into something new. She doesn’t have spontaneity in her life, but she knows she can traverse whatever she chooses because of her plans. She has become a master playing the “what-if” and “yes-but” games and never expects to meet a man that understands her need to evaluate all these issues. Sawyer lost himself after Tommy’s death. His love of the bayou, while still there, is tarnished with fear for those he loves and trying to keep them safe. When he meets Juliet, he is blown away and immediately adores her life vest and safety goggles … a woman after his own heart. As these two rebuild the dock that Juliet’s brother damaged, will they find a way to moderate their fears and embrace love? Or will their fears force them apart? Another incredible romance involving the entire Landry clan. I love how they embraced Juliet and Chase, they have big hearts and great spirits. I would love to hang out at Ellie’s and enjoy her chicken fried steak! I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
