I enjoyed Blake and Zoey’s story. Blake was a tough character to like from the other books in the series so I was excited to get to know him and find out that deep down he is a teddy bear. The thing that truly melts his heart is Zoey’s daughter, Hailee. He is a natural as he connects with her and makes her feel important, something Hailee is missing from her own father. The other secret we learn is that Blake has always been attracted to Zoey. When Zoey needs a ‘date’ for Hailee’s father’s wedding, well Blake steps in to be her fake boyfriend. Of course, they have to make sure everyone believes this is real at the wedding which requires them to spend more time together. As these two really get to know each other, will they be able to keep their feelings out of it? Or can they convince Nash that an office romance is ok? I loved how this couple connected and found a natural rhythm that included Hailee. I didn’t love some of their behaviors at the wedding, it seemed out of character for them but I know that it was needed to drive the drama in the story. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Grit and Lani provide a slow burn as they build a relationship. There are several hurdles along the way that provide several challenges along the way. For Grit, having his childhood friend appear after he thought she was dead was a huge shock and knowing she has been in a cult is an interesting twist. For me, parts of this story felt stuck, I had times where I wanted to move forward and it seemed like we kept waiting. But as we got to the big crazy twist, we get all the drama and emotion that I expect from the NOLA Defiance stories. A good addition for this series. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Every time he seems to be ready to move forward, the demons from his childhood emerge setting him back. These two are electric together which had me rooting from them to find a happily ever after. For Paisley, she needs Lucas to deal with the trauma he suffered growing up. I applaud Paisley’s courage to step away and build a new life to protect her heart while Lucas heals.
