A challenging second chance romance. Cody ran from home in college to pursue his career to avoid the emotions brewing. He is a very difficult man to like with his aloof and cold attitude. Returning home for the holidays as his father's health is failing has him seeing his high school girlfriend again for the first time in 10 years. Seeing Lexi and spending time with her does push him to realize what he left behind all those years ago. Lexi is an amazing mother and compassionate care-giver. Her job is to make Walter's life comfortable during his final days. Her son Harry is the light in her life. She struggles to make ends meet now that her mother needs full-time care for her Alzheimer's. Seeing Cody again is gut-wrenching. She never understood why he left her behind and the love she has for him never died. This is not an easy road for either of them but Cody is the one that has to face everything he blocked out as he fled life on the ranch. Will he be willing to open his heart and risk getting hurt to have a life with Lexi? I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

I shoved the front door open and set my gaze on Ethan on the sofa. “If you’re going to lie to me about living here, we’re going to have to set some hard and fast rules. The first one: the stinky, spiky pig lives in your bedroom.” He peered over at me, one hand in a bag of cheese Doritos and the other tickling the hedgehog who was now lying on his chest. It was quite the sight. “How do you know he stinks?” he asked, licking his fingers and cradling the animal before he put the chip packet on the coffee table. “I Googled. They need cleaning every day. I’m not doing it, and neither am I living in a smell of tiny animal who should be wild.” “He’s a pygmy hedgehog. What a fun and crazy trip. Ava can't believe she agreed to let her brother's best friend, Ethan, move into her apartment. She's loved him for years and doesn't know how she will be able to be around him all the time but she is desperate to get a roommate to help with the bills. He makes the situation even more intense by moving in Mr. Prickles, his pet hedgehog. Ava has an aversion to small animals which lends so much drama to the situation. Ethan always fights with Ava, it's the only way he can cope with the feelings he has for her knowing she is off-limits as his best friend's sister. Well, let the battle of wills begin as the passive aggressive pranks begin to see who will get the upper hand. These two are so busy fighting what they feel that they can't see that the other feels the same way. Add to this that neither wants to upset Leo if they start a relationship. But can all of the bickering lead them to love? These two are intense and provided me a wonderfully fun and sexy escape. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Slouched in the back booth of one of those froufrou café places a little later, I pulled out a book and bit into my egg and turkey bacon on an English muffin. Yes, you heard me right. 1. Egg. 2. Turkey bacon. 3. English muffin. It was like one of those riddles on the SAT—which, by the way, I wished I hadn’t taken on a whim in high school, because it made this whole NYC bullshit that much easier. Which two of the above three things does not belong? If you answered numbers two and three, you win. Ding, ding, ding! Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Who the fuck ate turkey bacon? Not a soul where I came from. And an English muffin was a poor excuse for a biscuit. Just as I sank my teeth into the last bite of nourishment—because turkey bacon couldn’t possibly be classified as delicious—someone took the table next to me. Not one for coffee-shop talk, I took a swig of my OJ and lowered my face deeper into my book. “Cannery Row? We read that in high school,” a female voice said, interrupting my quiet time. “Hmm.” I nodded without looking up, desperately trying to maintain invisible boundaries. The smell of fresh coffee filled my nostrils, making me think of my mom. She loved her morning coffee. Every day, she made a big pot and drink her first mug on the wraparound porch, sometimes wrapped in a flannel blanket. “You okay?” Another interruption. Looking up, I found the black-haired beauty who’d run into me earlier. “Yeah, why?” Slapping my worn book on the table, I suddenly had beef with the pixie extrovert. “You were reading, and all of a sudden looked really sad. Sorry, I didn’t mean to pry. It’s just . . .” I swallowed, wondering how the hell I looked sad, and then I remembered I was thinking of my mom. So I miss her. I’m no less of a man. It doesn’t make me a mama’s boy. “I’m cool,” I said, rather than explaining the truth. “We just saw each other.” She paused, obviously wanting to chat more, and I nodded. “You go to school here?” I finally asked. “No. It’s nice, though. I was just looking for someone in that building. Didn’t find her.” She whispered the last part to herself. Only listless for a second, she brightened back up. “Are you a grad student?” “Ha,” I barked. “What? I look too old to play the part of undergrad?” I was on the bench seat of my booth, my feet kicked out in front of me; she sat opposite me, on the chair side of her table. I wondered if her feet even touched the floor. Compared to my six-foot-two-inch frame, she’d barely hit my chest when we collided earlier. “Um . . .” She looked away, pink rising in her cheeks. Leaning forward, I ran my palm over my scruff, trying to remember when I last shaved. “Returning adult student is what I think they call it. School wasn’t really in my cards before, and now it is. So here I am.” Sitting quietly, she didn’t respond, just raised her brows as if waiting for more of an explanation. I didn’t give her anything more. My story wasn’t all that interesting, anyway.

Emerson goes on a quest to fill the whole in her life, her missing mother. As she searches for this lost love, she never expects to find a new "family" that gives her more love than she could ever dream of. Frustrated with her father's overbearing ways, she leaves home for NYC to seek out the mother that left her on her dad's doorstep. As she works to build a life in New York, working 2 jobs to pay the bills, she looks for any lead to her mother which starts in a bakery where she meets Bev. This leads her to a college where she runs into Price. Price has been dropped into NYC by his wealthy father when all he wants is to be back on the farm with his mom and step-dad. He attends his college classes but without any real enthusiasm and then he runs into this amazing girl. But as fast as he sees her, she is gone. Fate and destiny seem to be at play as these two cross paths again. Each one dealing with issues from decisions their parents made and struggling to know their true place. I loved how this relationship evolved as they dealt with all the ups and downs that life's emotional roller coaster put them on. There are so many amazing moments and unexpected connections that showed me how much fate and destiny can truly guide your life. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Until, of course, she heard someone mutter, “If you’re gonna do that, could you fucking move it outside to the alley like every other bitch that’ll get on her knees does, and give someone else the table?”

Vanna stiffened the second Bene’s lips stilled against her own. She physically felt the change in his posture, and sensed it, too. Like his playful, sexiness had left him just like that, and the heat in his gaze suddenly burned with more rage than it did lust when his stare met hers.

She didn’t know why she thought to speak to defuse the situation, but she still did. Or at least, she tried. “It’s fine. Just ignore him. It’s o—”

That was all Vanna managed to say before Bene pushed away from her. He spun sideways, as though he had just known the asshole came up to his right without even looking that way when he had been distracted with her. His fist was already flying, crashing into the face of the man before Vanna even had time to think about what was happening.

And then as fast as it happened, it was over. Bene spun on his heels, a dark grin tugging at his lips when her wide—slightly amused, but also terrified—gaze met his. Yes, she’d seen a man hit another man over her before. But no, she had never quite liked it the way she did right then.

The man hadn’t even hit the floor before Bene’s hand found hers, and he pulled her off the pool table, grabbing her bag from the floor at the same time, and moved them toward the back entrance of the bar. She peeked over her shoulder in just enough time, right before they darted out the back doors, to see the bartender coming around the bar.

They were already gone.

It was over.

That’s how fast it happened.

Her hand stayed tucked tightly with Bene’s as he pulled her through the back alley behind the bar, and through the maze of another three. He didn’t stop until they were one block down, and she recognized the familiar brick design of his building. Except it was the side, and not the front. Not that it mattered to her when he pressed her into the brick, his body crowding hers in the best way, leg slipping between her thighs to give her pussy something to grind on while he kissed her harder than ever.

Until her lungs burned.

And all she saw was him.

His hands skimmed over the front of her jeans, unsnapping the button and pulling down the zipper before sliding underneath. She stared down the alley to the busy street where people bustled on by. Not to mention, all the windows around them. What were the chances that this alley would be empty at this time of night? And still, anyone could see them there, if they just thought to look.

Vanna still didn’t care.

“That was crazy,” she breathed against his mouth.
