The wind stings my face and the glare from the afternoon sun obscures my vision as I fly down the long stretch of Sunset Canyon Road at well over a hundred miles per hour.

My heart pounds and my palms are sweaty, but not because of my speed. On the contrary, this is what I need. The rush. The thrill. I crave it like a junkie, and it affects me like a toddler on a sugar high.

Honestly, it’s taking every ounce of my willpower not to put my 1965 Shelby Cobra through her paces and kick her powerful engine up even more.

I can’t, though. Not today. Not here.

Not when I’m back, and certainly not when my homecoming has roused a swarm of butterflies in my stomach. When every curve in this road brings back memories that have tears clogging my throat and my bowels rumbling with nerves.

Dammit.

I pound down the clutch, then slam my foot onto the brake, shifting into neutral as I simultaneously yank the wheel sharply to the left. The tires squeal in protest as I make a U-turn across the oncoming lane, the car’s ass fishtailing before skidding to a stop in the turnout. I’m breathing hard, and honestly, I think Shelby is, too. She’s more than a car to me; she’s a lifelong best friend, and I don’t usually fuck with her like this.

Now, though…

Well, now she’s dangerously close to the cliff’s edge, her entire passenger side resting parallel to a void that boasts a view of the distant coastline. Not to mention a seriously stunning glimpse of the small downtown below.

The Sterlings are a resilient family, rising from the ashes of their family tragedy. Each family member is moving and coping with Colt’s loss differently. Lola is the fixer, she wants everyone to be happy and carries a lot of guilt for continuing her life after Colt’s death. Seeing the chaos that Viv and Asher are living in, she encourages Viv to move to California not knowing how painful this would really be for Asher. I admire Lola’s strength to walk away from her father’s company and start her own dream but it’s hard building a business. When Hayden West calls with a dream contract, she is skeptical. From their first meeting, Lola and Hayden are two strong personalities with huge drive and determination to get what they want. They both have focused on work and avoided relationships. It was fabulous experiencing the combustible connection they have as they navigated these new waters. Hayden’s journey adds another amazing layer to Lola’s story. There are stunning revelations and beautiful connections that are created. I am so happy that Lola found love but the Sterling’s journey isn’t over yet, so excited to see where we go next. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

She is now a successful author with a popular TV show based on her books. Needing to finish her next book, she decides to return home to Silver Ridge for inspiration. Running into Sam wasn’t on her agenda. Sam regrets the night that he let Chloe down. It’s been 10 years and maybe this is his chance to restore their friendship. I loved how this relationship was built. There is fear and anxiety after what happened in college, so Chloe needs to be willing to forgive while Sam needs to trust how he feels. Will they realize that love was in the future all along? Of course, I wasn’t prepared for the cliffhanger ending but it’s awesome and now we get more of their story. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

“Don’t play that crap with me, Sean Arrowood. I know you better. You want the wife and kids. You always have. The issue that you have is that you’re stupid.”

“Stupid?”

She nods. “Yup. S-T-U-P-I-D. And dumb.”

God, I love the side of her that is smart-mouthed, fearless, and relaxed. She’s only this way with me. Or at least, that’s what I’d like to think.

I love romance stories that give more than just romance. Kacey is fighting to live her passion and her dream in a world where many don’t believe she belongs. But she is determined to succeed in the racing world. When the chance to drive in the Indy 500 is presented, she jumps at it, knowing after a situation in Dayton, this may be her last chance. Meeting G, the mechanic on the car, is jarring and frustrating. G has his own issues. He is a master mechanic and engine builder but he walked away, when racing took his brother from him. He needs this job to help his niece but the grief and guilt are weighing him down. Deep down, Kacey and G share a love for racing and each one has demons to overcome to pursue that passion. I loved that their relationship was a slow build, both are hesitant yet they have chemistry and an easy connection. G’s niece Claire is a beautiful light in this journey as she helps both of them realize what is truly important which pushes them to embrace their dreams and passions.
